New Children and Family Room Opens

The bright and vibrant new room on Somersham WardA new children and family room has been opened in the Woolverstone Wing at The Ipswich Hospital - one of the country’s leading cancer centres.

The bright and vibrant new room on Somersham Ward is the inspiration of Hilary Wilson, Macmillan Family Support Worker at the centre, and has been made possible thanks to the generosity of the Somersham Ward Support Group who have entirely funded the project.

“ We are thrilled that a disused room on the ward has been completely transformed into a haven for children, young people and their families,” explained Hilary.

Mike Brookes, Chairman of The Ipswich Hospital, officially opened the new centre today and was joined by children Daisy Hewett and Ben BradshawThe room, complete with a television, DVD player books and art materials will be available throughout the day and evenings for children and teenagers to use while visiting loved ones and friends on the ward.

“We wanted to be able to create a special place for children and teenagers -an area they can enjoy and still be close to their relatives and friends,” Hilary continued.
